About me
John Newman is a Professor and a previous Chair of the Utah Valley University Department of Theatrical Arts. He currently serves as Director of UVU’s Theatre for Youth and Education (TYE) Center and coordinates the UVU Theatre Education program. Dr. Newman earned his BFA and M.Ed. from the University of Utah, his MA from the University of Texas, and his PhD at New York University. He taught and directed theatre at Highland High School for eighteen years, where he developed and premiered a dozen new plays for young actors. John Newman has published his own plays with Dramatic, YouthPLAYS, Eldridge, and Leicester Bay and is the author of Playwriting in Schools: Dramatic Navigation, which received the 2020 AATE Distinguished Book Award.
