About me
Tia Powell Harris holds an unwavering belief in the power of the arts to transform lives that has lasted throughout her 30-year career, now serving as the Vice President of Education & Community Engagement at New York City Center. Harris began work at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC, and then served as Manager of Community Partnerships at the Kennedy Center, Associate Director of Education Programs at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, before returning to Ellington to serve as Dean of Arts and later Director of Artistic Affairs. After serving as Executive Director and President of Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, she returned to Ellington as Chief Executive Officer, and then finally came to City Center. She holds a BS in Speech and Drama Education and an MA in Communication Arts and Theatre from the University of Maryland.
